For the past two years, we’ve been working on something different.
Not a new product launch.
Not a promo.
But a reminder — of why we head out in the first place.

Today, we’re proud to share the first piece in our new campaign, Answer the Call — a short film we call Laughing Heart.

We wanted to capture what calls us to the road. What drives us to pack up the van, leave the noise behind, and find something quieter, deeper, more real.

Laughing Heart isn’t about specs or gear. It’s about that moment. The silence. The view. The feeling that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.

A Voice That Matches the Feeling

To tell this story, we borrowed the unmistakable voice of Tom Waits, reciting Charles Bukowski’s poem The Laughing Heart. It felt like the perfect match — rough-edged, honest, unshakably true.

“Your life is your life. Don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission. There is light somewhere. It may not be much light, but it beats the darkness.”

This campaign is about that light. About saying yes to the detour. About getting out there, even when life tries to keep you in place.



What We Believe

At BACKLAND, we don’t build vans — we build the gear that lets you take them further.

But it’s never really been about the products — It’s about what they make possible.

The campfire mornings. The starlit pullouts. The chance to hear your own thoughts again.
